Aldi has begun stocking new-season Scottish strawberries in all of its stores north of the border, claiming to be the first retailer to do so.
The fruit was grown by Angus Soft Fruits member Tim Stockwell atBarnsmuir Farm on the outskirts of Crail, Fife, and is in stores earlier thanks to advancements in polytunnel technology and the Seaton System, which has helped growers increase the length of the season in Scotland from six weeks to almost nine months.
Punnets of Aldi’s Nature’s Pick strawberries (£1.79 for 227g) and Specially Selected strawberries (£1.85 for 227g) went on sale in all 86 Aldi stores in Scotland from Monday 29 April.
