Spain's fresh fruit and vegetable imports grew 1.4 per cent on a year-on-year basis for the 11 months to November 2012, according to new data published by Fepex.

According to the group, which was outlining data collated by the Department of Customs and Excise, volumes grew to 2m tonnes, although value fell 1 per cent to €1.3bn.

Vegetable imports stood at 976,965 tonnes, down 0.6 per cent on the same period of 2011, at a value of €400m, which represented growth of 10.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, fruit imports came in at 1.1m tonnes, up 3.3 per cent, at a value of €879m which was up 4 per cent.
