The National Farmers’ Union has announced that Guy Poskitt will become acting chairman of the NFU Horticulture & Potatoes Board from next month as Sarah Dawson takes time off to have her baby.

At a meeting on 19 March the union voted in Poskitt, who grows carrots, parsnips, swede and potatoes in Yorkshire, as its acting chairman.

Speaking after the vote, Poskitt said: “I’m delighted to have been voted in as acting chairman by the board. It’s an exciting opportunity to take the helm and progress the policy issues the board has set on its Agenda for Growth. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in to NFU work and have high hopes for the horticulture and potato industry’s performance this year.”

He will remain in post for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six. Poskitt is also outgoing NFU county chairman for the West Riding of Yorkshire.
