Research in spotlight at Fruit Focus

Leading research that will help UK fruit growers meet the demands of the market place will be a key attraction at Fruit Focus.

The work is being undertaken by some of the sector’s foremost scientists from East Malling Research which is hosting the event on Wednesday.

It will be highlighted in a series of tours that run regularly throughout the day at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Adam Whitehouse will showcase two new varieties from the East Malling Strawberry Breeding Club, one June-bearer and one everbearer undergoing trials in the UK and Northern Europe, namely Serenity and Buddy.

Dr Mark Else is to tour delegates through new production systems aimed at optimising water and fertiliser inputs to improve profitability and sustainability of substrate strawberry production

Finally, Graham Caspell will tour through the Sainsbury’s and East Malling Concept Pear Orchard aimed at increasing production and efficiency.

Fruit Focus will bring together more than 1,200 growers and industry professionals and 120 suppliers showcasing all aspects of technology, agronomy, machinery and business information.
