This year’s National Fruit Show Conference is promising an unrivalled lineup of speakers discussing the most pressing issues for growers.

For the first time the National Fruit Show Conference is partnering with the Fresh Produce Journal to deliver an innovative and interactive event on Wednesday 16 October at the Kent Showground in Maidstone. Sponsored by Whitehead Monckton, the conference will feature a morning session focused on retail followed by an afternoon programme addressing key grower and technical issues.

Sarah Calcutt, chair of the National Fruit Show, said: “This year’s conference will be better than ever, with high-profile speakers discussing the topics that matter most to the nation’s fruit growers.”

Michael Barker, editor of the Fresh Produce Journal, added: “We are delighted to be involved in the National Fruit Show Conference and look forward to taking part in such a well-established and respected event. There are some major issues facing UK growers at the moment and this conference will give them the opportunity to hear from industry leaders and get involved in the debate first hand.”

Marsha Marriner, who heads the rural team at Whitehead Monckton solicitors said: “This is our second year of sponsoring the National Fruit Show Conference and we’re confident the quality of speakers will add real value to our clients attending this important event.”

The conference runs alongside the National Fruit Show, which takes place from 16-17 October. Organisers report that stand space at the show is already sold out, with 16 exhibitors appearing for the first time this year.

2013 is the 80th anniversary of the Marden Fruit Show Society and plans reflect the event's tradition of attracting the biggest names in industry, politics and beyond. Other highlights include the fruit competitions, where leading growers will battle it out for glory in a wide range of categories.

The show is also increasingly reflecting the wider industry, with tomato growers and wine producers taking their place alongside soft fruit and juices to reflect the diversity of the horticultural trade.
