Loren Zhao of leading online fruit retailer Fruitday to speak on marketing to China's younger consumers at Asiafruit Market Insight

China’s e-commerce boom is creating a buzz in the country’s fresh fruit import trade, with high-value products such as cherries enjoying rapid growth in online sales.

On-hand to discuss the opportunities this exciting new platform offers for fresh fruit marketers at this year’s Asiafruit Market Insight event is Loren Zhao, founder and president of China’s leading online fruit retailer Fruitday.

Organised by Asiafruit Magazine and supported by Asia Fruit Logistica, Asiafruit Market Insight heads to Hangzhou, west of Shanghai, on 28-30 May 2014, to explore fresh opportunities for growth in eastern China.

Shanghai and its satellite cities have been central to China’s flourishing e-commerce market. Zhao looks at how the online and social media landscape is evolving in the region in the session ‘E-commerce boom: bringing younger consumers online’.

Fruitday has conducted several high-profile promotions for world-leading brands of imported fruit with e-commerce giants such as TMall. Zhao explains the role such channels can play in building a brand and in attracting younger consumers.

Hangzhou and other fast-emerging tier-two cities close to Shanghai are driving demand for imported fruit. But developing logistics and cold chain infrastructure are key success factors in unlocking their vast consumption potential.

Kurt Huang of Shanghai Huizhan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market, which opened its doors last August, joins an expert panel to discuss how the distribution network is evolving in the Yangtze River Delta region – and the logistics of reaching consumers in Shanghai’s satellite cities.

Asiafruit Market Insight takes place at Hangzhou’s deluxe JW Marriot Hotel, opening with a Welcome Reception on the evening of 28 May. A full day of conference sessions follows on 29 May, and the event concludes on 30 May with a day of study tours to leading local wholesale market and retail operations in the region.
