New Zealand agribusiness Turners & Growers is strengthening its ties with Pacific Island nation Fiji by opening a direct business there in Suva later this month.

In a media release the company stated the new business would include a distribution centre with cold chain facilities to allow Turners & Growers to control the supply chain from farm to retail.

The business will make it easier for New Zealand growers to sell produce to Fijian retailers and top hotels and resorts, said Turners & Growers general manager New Zealand markets Alistair Petrie.

“The establishment of our own controlled cool chain and distribution centre means New Zealand-grown products can be showcased to consumers in Fiji,” he said. “There will be a more direct line of business for New Zealand growers to supply their fruit and vegetables into this market via our supply chain and distribution networks with the added security for growers supplying Turners & Growers of payment in full and on time,” he continued.

“For New Zealand growers wanting to supply products to Fiji, this will simplify the process for them. It will be easier for growers here to supply Fiji through the new Turners & Growers business operations there, payments to them will be made through the existing domestic grower payments system that we operate for all other markets,” said Mr Petrie.
