According to the test results just-back from the US, the fruit involved in the PPV scare has come back negative for the disease. This supports test results carried out by the authorities in New Zealand and so the NZ farm ministry has confirmed that the country's PPV-free status remains in tact.

Summerfruit NZ, which represents stone fruit growers in New Zealand, told freshinfo that testing will continue to identify the cause of the original questionable results which led to the PPV scare. The organisation will continue to monitor testing but stressed that there is no evidence so far that the cause of the symptoms discovered in fruit in the Waikato area three weeks ago should be of 'economic importance' to stone-fruit production in New Zealand.
