Italian kiwifruit-growers have reached an agreement on minimum kiwifruit quality for the new season. Producers will respect the accord drawn up with the national agricultural organisation CIA in order to supply according to minimum quality standards. The minimum fruit maturity level has been set at 6.2 brix for harvesting to ensure brix levels of 11 at consumption.

The harvest will not begin until October 10 and fruit weight at sale should be no less than 65g.

Italian growers are forecasting a harvest of some 430,000 tonnes of fruit, which is below last season’s levels. Meanwhile, production in Greece, France and Spain is expected to increase this season.
