Speculation, claims and counter claims have surfaced this week surrounding Zespri and a possible takeover of the New Zealand kiwifruit marketer, by post-harvest operators within the sector in New Zealand.
Zespri did not respond in time for FPJ’s deadline, but the company was reported in the press as “flatly denying” any possible takeovers.
Four post-harvest operators had been linked with the buy-up speculation after an article in the NZ press reporting on a speech by the chairman of the Satara co-operative at the group’s annual general meeting.
Satara has since been reported saying that its chairman’s comments were personal views, and blown out of proportion.
