Invader fruit fly

The funding comes after Plant Health Australia (PHA) announced a National Fruit Fly Strategy (NFFS) with a dedicated advisory committee to manage regulation, research and development of policies relating to fruit flies.

PHA’s CEO Greg Fraser said the NFFS is welcomed as a step forward in the horticulture industry. “Recognising that a number of crops can be impacted, a collaborative approach is the most effective way to manage fruit flies.,” he said in a media release from PHA.

The NFFS has been in progress since 2010, with the latest funding announcement coming soon after the Riverland region of South Australia regained its pest free status following the first outbreak of fruit flies in the area in 23 years.
