Asiafruit, Asia’s leading supplier of news and analysis for the international fresh produce business, has launched a new Chinese-language service.

Providing high-quality content for Chinese readers in Mandarin, Asiafruit News has kicked off as a free bi-weekly newsletter. The e-newsletter is delivered direct to subscribers’ inboxes twice a week, and is also published via social media through Asiafruit’s WeChat platform.

Asiafruit is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year as Asia’s only dedicated fresh produce publication, and editor John Hey said the move to launch a Chinese-language news and information service was a logical one.

“Asiafruit has developed a very strong network in Asia and across the rest of the world over the past 20 years by delivering reliable and high-quality coverage of the region’s fresh produce business in print and online. Now, we want to extend our reach into China and to build more bridges between the local and international trade,” said Hey.

“Asiafruit News enables us to offer Chinese-speaking readers a service of the same high standard set by Asiafruit and our sister publications within the Fruitnet Media International Group, namely Eurofruit, Americafruit, Fresh Produce Journal, Fruchthandel and Produce Plus.”

“As well as reporting on the latest developments on the local scene in China, Asiafruit News is bringing Chinese readers unparalleled coverage, comment and analysis from across the global fresh produce business through our international network of reporters within the Fruitnet group.”

Asiafruit’s Chinese-language news service is edited by Yuxin Yang, who recently joined the publication as China editor. Yang previously worked a bilingual North Asia editor for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), and he has five years’ work experience in Beijing where he worked for major media companies such as LifeStyle Magazine and Phoenix New Media.

“I am really excited to join this industry-leading publisher to develop Asiafruit’s Chinese-language services. The rate of growth and change in China’s fresh produce business is quite remarkable and I believe there is much more development to come with better information exchange between the local and international trade,” said Yang.

“Our bi-weekly news service is just the first step for us. We’ll soon be launching a fully fledged Chinese-language website, as well as developing various other Chinese-language publications and services for the trade.”

Asiafruit’s advertising manager Kate Riches said Asiafruit News offers exciting new advertising opportunities, both for local Chinese companies and for international players looking to build their penetration in the fast-growing Chinese market.

“We offer a quality and reliable platform for companies to promote their business through banner advertising including professional translation and graphic design services,” said Riches. “We can also develop bespoke Chinese-language publications in print and online for international players that want to reach out to the Chinese audience with premium-quality content.”

Asiafruit announced the launch of its Chinese-language service at its China conference event, Asiafruit Market Insight, which took place at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Shanghai on 20-22 May.

Now in its third year, Asiafruit Market Insight is rapidly developing its position as an annual meeting point for industry decision makers from China and the rest of the world. The conference event offers a unique combination of high-quality information, discussion and networking, and complements Asiafruit’s other events in Asia – Asiafruit Congress – held together with Asia Fruit Logistica each September in Hong Kong, and Fresh Produce India, India’s only international fresh produce conference event.
