Woolworths has announced that Dave Chambers will leave his position as director of Woolworths supermarkets in Australia after a year in the role.

Chambers will return to New Zealand to return to his former role as managing director of progressive enterprises for Woolworths, which will entail leading a team of 18,000 and a network of 183 Countdown stores.

'“While I have a long standing history with Progressive, returning in 2016 is really a new beginning. I’ve loved working in Sydney [Austraila] over the past 12 months and am looking forward to rejoining a great team that is focussed on bringing the best prices and a terrific shopping experience to Countdown customers,” Chambers said in a company statement

He served as managing director of progressive enterprises from July 2011 to January 2015, with experience at the company since 1979.

Pat McEntee, who has been acting managing director in New Zealand, will return to Australia to take on a senior role.
