Seeka kiwifruit picking

New Zealand's Seeka Kiwifruit Industries has announced plans to relocated its headquarters to a centres of excellent to reflect its focus on crops and post-harvest.

The new 3,000m2 headquarters in Te Puke will sit on the 7.4ha site purchased last year alongside a 5.4ha kiwifruit orchards.

“Our new HQ will reflect our focus on the crops we and our growers produce, and the harvest and post-harvest value chain,” said CEO Michael Franks.

The relocation is a broader NZ$20m investment in new infrastructure to support growing kiwifruit volume, which includes coolstore expansions at its Te Puke KKP Packhouse, and at its Katikati site.

Seeka is also looking into rebranding to coincide with the move mid-year, engaging with Australian brand scientist Peter Singline.

In the coming season, Seeka has forecast 28.2m class-1 trays, up from 27.5m trays in 2015, and will employ more than 3,500 seasonal workers.
