OZblu record

Australian growers have set a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest blueberry.

Weighing in at a staggering 12.39g, the OZblu berry was the product of natural breeding by Western Australian-based duo Dave and Leasa Mazzardis.

“For OZblu, this is an incredible achievement and we are incredibly proud of David and Leasa for growing this profound blueberry,” explained Roger Horak, co-founder and global CEO of OZblu.

With over 40 farms globally growing OZblu varieties, the producer has suggested the current mark set by the Mazzardis’ could be eclipsed.

“There is no shortage of supply to the global market and there is a good chance that OZblu may even beat their own record in the years to come,” a release from OZblu said.

While in this case size clearly matters, Horak said OZblu growers were primarily committed to producing the highest quality blueberries possible.

“We are intent on growing the best blueberries on the market and this means that taste, crunch and flavour are our priorities. Dave just happens to grow record sized fruit too.”

OZblu continues to expand and invest in new blueberry orchards, with its latest joint venture launching in the Americas this year.

“It has been an incredible year for OZblu and with a new record in the Guinness World Records, we will continue to grow on our strengths” said Horak.
