The Queensland Citrus Growers Organisation is set to disband as growers look to become part of the recently established national body, Citrus Australia.

Director Michael McMahon told ABC Rural that Citrus Australia has already identified key issues to address, such as marketing and biosecurity, and was more affordable to join than the Queensland group.

'It's only A$20 per hectare, so if you've got a 20ha farm it's A$400 per year,' he said. 'It's not a lot of money to have a say in how your national body is going to represent you and your industry.'

Meanwhile, banana supplies to Queensland have returned to normal following recent flooding that left supplies low after transport links were cut off.

'The industry is very appreciative of the support it has received fromconsumers during the recent interruption in banana supplies,' Australian Banana Growers' Council president Nicky Singh told local press. 'We expect that banana prices at retail outlets will quickly reflect the increase in available supply as packing shed and transport operations return to normal.'
