New Zealand's fresh produce industry organisation Horticulture NZ has confirmed it will seek approval from the country's fruit growers to increase the current statutory marketing levy from NZ$11 (€6) to NZ$15 (€8) per NZ$10,000 (€5,425) of sales.

The increase, proposed to come into force as of 1 October 2010, would bring the levy in line with the current rate for New Zealand's vegetable growers.

Up until now, levies paid by fruit growers in the country have been topped up to NZ$15 through donations from the NZ Fruitgrowers Charitable Trust fund.

The vote is due to be held during the course of this year's Horticulture NZ annual general meeting, which will take place in Christchurch on 5 August.
