Kiwifruit generic

A month on from the discovery of bacterial disease Psa in a kiwifruit orchard in Te Puke, New Zealand, an incorporated society has formally been established to lead the industry management strategy.

The society is reportedly set to be named Kiwifruit Vine Health Incorporated (KVH) and will operate as a non-profit body.

Its purposes, according to a press release circulated today by the New Zealand kiwifruit Industry Advisory Council (IAC), which met today, include implementing an aggressive containment strategy and developing and implementing a long-term pest management and monitoring plan for Psa.

Also agreed upon was KVH's board of directors, which includes Peter McBridge, deputy chairman of Zespri Group, as chair of the board; Simon Limmer, general manager Zespri Global Supply for Zespri International; Paul Jones, NZKGI Forum member; Michael Franks, CEO of SEEKA Kiwifruit Industries; Rob Craig, managing director, Punchbowl Group; and David Hayes, Biosecurity Response Manager, MAF Biosecurity NZ.
