while children and parents are being made more aware of the benefits of eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day via the Department of Health’s 5 A DAY programme, we at FruityFaces Ltd realised there was a need to overcome the practical issues of carrying whole fruit around when away from home.

Our research shows time and again children are taking a lovely piece of fruit to school or clubs and then bringing it home at the end of the day, squashed, bruised and uneaten.

So, FruityFaces’ fun inflatable fruity cases have been designed to protect fruit while it’s carried around - a special air pocket system cushions the fruit, keeping it intact, fresh and much more appetizing, encouraging children to eat their fruit.

We are delighted to have been awarded a license to use the DoH 5 A DAY logo on all product packaging and promotional literature and we are visiting schools during assemblies to promote the ‘5 A DAY’ message and demonstrate just how ‘cool’ FruityFaces are and how they can help the children reach their target of 5 A DAY. When children see a FruityFace fruit case, their excited response is ‘cool’ - exactly what we wanted to achieve with our products. By making fruit cool and fun there is a positive change in the perception and image of eating more fruit.

The FruityFace inflatable fruit case characters, which are named after African fruits, are designed to clip onto a school or sports bag and children also enjoy clipping them onto their belt loops.

In the past carrying fruit has been limited to robust fruit but with a FruityFace fun inflatable fruit case children can now carry other fruit like peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, grapes and more. You can even cut your apple or orange before your put them in your FruityFace case and the fruit is preserved as well as in clingfilm, a plastic bag or container.

By widening children’s choices about the fruit they can take to school, we are increasing the opportunity for them to opt for a fruit snack instead of a less healthy option and achieve their 5 A DAY.

FruityFaces was also nominated as finalists for the “Innovation of the Year” and the “5 A Day Supporter of the Year” awards at the prestigious Re:fresh Awards last week.
