Seeka

Seeka will install a Maf Roda packing line at its KKP packhouse in Te Puke.

The new eight lane machine will include camera grading and packing automation.

Seeka expects the solutionto deliver significant production efficiencies and a commensurate increase in total kiwifruit trays packed.

Minimal modifications will be made to the KKP building, other than the construction of an additional curing canopy. The project is expected to be commissioned in time for the 2022 harvest.

An additional 650,000 trays of cold storage space will also be created at the adjacent Transcool site. The expansion will come at the expense of a smaller existing coolstore.

The new coolstore includes additional pre-cooling capacity to handle the increased production and will be a high efficiency store with five-high pallet racking, high air movement and automation.

Seeka chief executive, Michael Franks, said the project would provide the company with sufficient capacity for the next two years, as it looks to meet committed and additional kiwifruit volumes.

The total investment for the Maf Roda line and coolstore is forecast to be NZ$20m (US$14m).
