Delegation visited various orchards and packing operations and took part in educational programming on food safety and post-harvest handling
The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) hosted a delegation of fresh fruit importers and retailers from Mexico last week in collaboration with the US Embassy in Mexico, the CDFA said in a release.
As part of the tour, the delegation visited orchards and packing operations and engaged in educational programming focused on food safety and post-harvest handling.
The visit connected growers with foreign buyers and expanded trade connections in California’s third largest agricultural export market valued at more than US$1.9bn.
In addition, the CDFA’s Division of Inspection Services and the California Department of Public Health’s Food and Drug Branch highlighted the state’s produce food safety programme and the California Food Emergency Response Team (CalFERT).
The mission was conducted in collaboration with the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, California Fresh Fruit Association, California Table Grape Commission and California Cherries.
