Del Monte has indicated it will create a 5,000ha plantation in the Philippines after a groundbreaking ceremony was held recently in Las Nieves in the province of Agusan del Norte.
An initial plantation of 200ha will take place in the San Roque region. Eventaully the multi-million dollar plantation will be developed in the seven districts of Marcos Calo, Bonifacio, Katipunan, San Isidro, Malicato, Tinukluran and Poblacion.
According to a report from the National Economic and Development Authority soil fertility and the dynamism of the people and the local government were the primary considerations in Del Monte choosing the site.
“We will participate in your progress. Take a picture of Las Nieves now and see how it will change in the future with Del Monte. We hope to grow together,” said Del Monte general manager Señor Guido Bellavita.
