Netherlands-based mushroom and exotic produce specialist Mitrofresh has opened a new office in China, as it looks to secure more business outside the EU.

The office is in Guangzhou, one of China’s largest cities. According to Mitrofresh, the city has a centuries-long tradition of trade with Europe, making it a natural focus for its new commercial venture.

“We are proud to announce that we have opened a new office in this capital of the Guangdong province,” the company said in a statement.

A new company, Mitro Guangzhou International, will operate as part of Mitro Group and is expected to market the entire Mitrofresh – Culture Food product range to customers in the region.

“With the opening of the Guangzhou China office, Mitrofresh is taking the next step in the international expansion of its business,” it added. “With this, we aim to better serve customers in and outside the EU by shortening supply chains and increasing efficiency.”

Established in 2008 and based in Maasdijk, Netherlands, the company supplies more than 200 fresh products – including a wide range of mushrooms, Asian vegetables, exotic fruits, roots, and tubers – to wholesale and retail customers across many different international markets.
