Taiyuan Lao Ge previously sold Bt1bn worth of Thai durian in just one day
Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has partnered with popular Chinese influencer, Taiyuan Lao Ge, to conduct a livestream sale of Thai fruit, according to a report from Bangkok Post.
Taiyuan, who has 93mn followers on Kuaishou a short video platform with 400mn users, aims to break his previous record where he sold nearly Bt1bn worth of Thai durian in just one day.
The livestream will promote a diverse range of Thai fruit to Chinese consumers including durian, mango, longan and mangosteen.
Thai commerce minister, Pichai Naripthaphan, said the ministry had collaborated with Chinese businesses and online platforms to raise the visibility of Thai agricultural products globally and that collaborating with Chinese influencers was vital for increasing Thai fruit exports.
“We are taking various measures with an aim to distribute 950,000 tonnes of fruit while stabilising prices across the board,” Pichai said.
According to the Bangkok Post, the minister has been in talks with Wu Zhiwu, minister-counsellor at the Chinese embassy in Thailand, on simplifying export procedures, easing inspection measures and speeding up customs clearance during peak Durian season.
In response, Chinese authorities have set up a special Green Lane, extended operational hours and assigned experienced staff to ensure round-the-clock service for swift inspections and prompt release upon clearance.
