Sparkes, a veteran of the horticulture industry and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award at the Grower of the Year awards in 2007, bows out after 54 years of service.
He was instrumental in developing a 'Gardener's Delight' tomato cropping system for M&S and his recent achievements include introducing Angello Sweet & Seedless Peppers to the marketplace.
Sparkes will continue to support Melrow Salads - a company he has been a part of for over 25 years - in a non-executive capacity.
“The retirement will give me more time to play golf and spend time in the garden with my family," said Sparkes.
