Apple brand Pink Lady has announced a 70 per cent increase in entries for its Food Photographer of the Year competition.

“Entries kept on coming in right to the last second,” said Caroline Kenyon, the competition’s director. The deadline for applications was 31 January.

“We are really delighted to announce that we have trounced last year’s entry figures by an astonishing 70 per cent, with 5,500 images coming from across the world.”

Coregeo UK holds the British master license for the Pink Lady brand and also sponsors the competition. Director Andy Macdonald added that he was very impressed by the quality and range of the work submitted.

The shortlist will be revealed at the end of February, followed by a dinner at the Saatchi Gallery in March where the category winners and the overall winning entry will be decided. The winners will be announced at an awards reception held on 23 April at the Mall Galleries in April, presented by the food writer Jay Rayner.
