New Foodhall in Surrey is part of strategy to double size of M&S Food business by creating larger stores that better cater to weekly family shoppers

M&S is set to open its biggest ever standalone store on 16 July in Godalming, Surrey.
The opening is part of the retailer’s strategy to double the size of its food business by creating larger stores and encouraging shoppers to do more of their weekly shop at M&S by exapnding the range of products available.
Designed around “how modern families shop”, the new store will feature multi-temperature zones in herbs, organic and fruit, a larger in-store bakery, and a brand-new kitchen shop with family kitchen essentials.
Other in-store innovations include wider fresh produce areas, a rotisserie chicken counter, and family-friendly touches including mini trolleys for children.
Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food, said: “Godalming will be our biggest ever standalone Food store and an example of the kind of modern, full-range Foodhall we’re investing in as we double the size of the business.”
The retailer also announced the expansion of its Remarksable value range of everyday food products from 146 to 175 products.
Prices in the range, which includes fresh fruit and veg, are benchmarked against M&S’ retail competitors.
The retailers said it is now the fastest-growing retailer among families for both value and volume, with larger foodhalls expected to offer a more comprehensive range of fresh produce.
