The Washington Apple Commission (WAC) has launched an online app to provide information about its varieties, recipe ideas and handling advice.

“With more and more varieties showing up on store shelves in international markets, there’s a need to be able to communicate directly with consumers about each variety characteristic and how to take care of apples so they maintain their quality once the consumer gets home,” said Rebecca Lyons, WAC’s international marketing director. “We also wanted to create a way to interact visually with consumers through Instagram, as well as the ability for them to share recipes with us.”

The Washington Best Apples app is accessible on both the iOS and Android platforms, and translations of the content are available in Spanish, Russian and Chinese. The project has been partly funded by the Washington State Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block grant. To view the app, visit bestappl.es.
