A South Korean company will spend close to US$500,000 implamenting a project aimed at boosting fresh produce production in Laos’ Saravan province, according to the Vientiane Times.

Authorities from the province approved a 200ha land concession to JS Farm to conduct the programme over the next 20 years. The authorities are hoping the project will boost local production of French custard apples and phakehoum, with the fruit to be sold in both domestic and export markets.

In turn, the project will create a number of new jobs in the province, which is expected to reduce the number of locals migrating to nearby Thailand for work.
