Biological testing has confirmed another positive detection of Panama tropical race 4 (TR4) on a Queensland banana farm already operating withthe disease.

The suspect plant was found on the Tullyproperty through routine on-farm surveillance earlier this month, and has since undergone molecular (PCR) and biological(VCG) testing.

The farm has been operating with TR4 for almost a year without the discovery of an additional infected plant. An initial positive TR4 detection was confirmed at the property on 26 July 2017.

“As I have previously stated, for this property to have gone almost 12 months without any new detections is really quite remarkable, considering the rapid pace this disease has spread elsewhere across the world,' said Australian Banana Growers’ Council chairStephen Lowe.

“We continue to offer our full support to the family involved. Their efforts to date in controlling this disease have been exceptionaland we thank them for their continued support.”
