Tesco price pledge

Tesco, the UK-based multinational retail chain, has revealed plans to open its first supermarket outlet in Xiamen, a coastal city in southeastern Fujian Province, this autumn, according to a report on www.chinaknowledge.com.

The retail giant hopes to add a second store in the Chinese city next year, and will open further outlets there if the business performs well, the report said, citing a UK Trade & Investment business delegation at a press conference in Xiamen.

According to the Xiamen Daily, Tesco is targeting four stores in Fujian Province in the next two years.

US-based Wal-Mart and France-based Carrefour already have outlets in Xiamen, but Tesco has been stepping up its focus on expansion in southern China.
