CMA CGM ship

Following a similar move from Maersk and Neptune Orient Lines, French shipper CMA CGM announced a rate rise yesterday on its Asia-Europe trade routes.

The increases will be on the base freight rate, the bunker surcharge and possible peak season rates, reported the Journal of Commerce Online.

All westbound cargo and commodity traffic rates to Europe will be increased by US$300 per TEU beginning 1 July, the shipping line said.

CMA CGM will also increase the BAF rate from US$281 to US$333 TEU in response to rising oil prices.

The shipper said it could also decide to put in place a peak season surcharge, applied from 1 August.
