Members of the G6 Alliance today (May 2) announced they would not reinstate a planned loop 2 Asia-Europe service, but maintain instead their current 6-loop product structure.

In a statement, G6 member APL said the current market environment did not justify an additional service in the Asia-Europe trade. Loop 2 was originally due to be launched in March.

The G6 Alliance, which comprises container shipping lines APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui OSK Lines, NYK and OOCL, provides six loops between Asia and North Europe, the Asia-Mediterranean Express Service and the Asia-Black Sea Express Service.

According to APL, these eight loops connect some 40 ports in 25 countries with over 110 weekly calls.
