Uruguay's currency plummeted by 22.9 per cent to the dollar on Tuesday as the country faces economic crisis. A knock-on effect from the Argentinean and Brazilian financial problems led to the Uruguayan peso's flotation at the end of June. Some 33 per cent of deposits have been withdrawn from Uruguayan banks so far this year. The central bank called a banking holiday on Tuesday to stem the flow.
