The fresh produce industry could be able to benefit from some of the ten new mega-trends analysts claim are shaping society.

In a new report, entitled Global Consumer Trends, market analysts Datamonitor, lists the trends which range from age complexity to sensory experience and individualism to connectivity.

However, two of the key trends, which could spell opportunity for fresh produce are convenience and health.

According to the report, as the pace of life gets faster, there will be more grazing and on-the-move consumption. Datamonitor said UK consumers are Europe’s biggest on-the-go eaters and drinkers.

Health is also a major factor in the list, with the report showing almost three quarters of Europeans are now more concerned about their health and well-being than they were last year.

Datamonitor says the biggest prizes will be for companies that create products that cross over trends, such as health-on-the-go snacks, like a salad pot.
