Sole Frutta pinpoints UK market

Sole Frutta Group has set its sights on the UK market, according to marketing director, Ermes Bampa.

The Verona-based organisation produces a range of region-specific crops, with large volumes of peaches and kiwifruit, as well as marketing produce from other regions and abroad.

Bampa, pictured, said Italy has a wide selection of both commodity and niche products and must find a way to differentiate itself from neighbouring Spain.

“It is important to study the standardisation of production,” he said. Our philosophy is always quality. Spain guarantees quality and quantity but in Italy everything is fragmented so it is difficult to make sure to get the level of quantity at the right quality."

The kiwifruit season has just finished and Sole Frutta maintained its good reputation for its principal crop, said Bampa.

But the company is always looking for opportunities to find new niches and lead in other products, he says. It produces a small amount of rockolla and other salad vegetables and is hoping to expand the market for these lines.

In addition, Sole Frutta is hoping to form stronger alliances with other producer organisations to be able to offer larger volumes and receive greater recognition for its products.

“In Verona we are in a good strategic position, next to two main highways,” said Bampa. “We are looking into groupage because we have to send more produce altogether. We have the logistic facilities already so we are organising ourselves to be able to offer a service to brand.”
