One of the UK's largest growing co-operatives is to launch a new vegetable brand.

Bedfordshire Growers' 'BG's Great British' brand will feature a range of onion lines, including a mixed pack of red and brown onions, and Europe's first 'true-coloured' sweet onion.

The brand will emphasise the co-op's British roots and pride, and will include a picture of the production site on-pack so the customer knows exactly where the product is coming from.

Bedfordshire Growers MD, Stephen Hedderly, said: "It's all about being British, with union jacks and lots of colour. There is also lots of information about the different flavours of onions to help the consumer."

He added: "After much research, we have launched the first pack of mixed onions. Customers want convenience - instead of buying a separate bag of red onions and brown, to buy both in the same pack makes their lives simpler.

"Red onions are ideal for salads and sandwiches, and browns are ideal for cooking, so 1kg is the perfect size for customers' weekly usage."
