A display of potatoes has won a gold medal at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
The Potato Story, sponsored by Suffolk-based seed firm Thompson & Morgan, is believed to be the first gold to be awarded to a potato-only exhibit in the 153-year history of the world's number-one flower show.
The display features more than 140 varieties of potato, highlighting the diversity of the product, complemeted by text that explores the origins and history of the potato.
Many of the varieties come from designers Morrice and Anne Innes'personal collection of tubers.
Morrice told the Daily Telegraph: “We’ve tried to tell the tale of the potato by highlighting a vast array of skin colours, shapes and sizes, while suggesting the best uses of each variety and the places where they come from.
'You won’t find many of the varieties for sale at the supermarket. Hopefully we’ll help inspire more people to grow potatoes and to try some of the more unusual forms while they are at it.”
A total of 77 gold medals have been awarded this year at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which is sponsored by M&G Investments.
A total of seven gold medals, seven silver-gilt medals and one silver medal were also awarded to show gardens, with no bronze medals in sight.
