Long-standing Agrovista chairman James Robertson is retiring after 43 years working for the company.

Robertson, who joined the company as a graduate trainee in 1972, will be taking on an advisory role at trading group Marubeni Europe from the start of next year.

Agrovista said he was “instrumental” to the growth of the company, and helped develop it into a leading distributor in the UK crop protection industry.

He became managing director of Agrovista UK in 2001, and has worked across the company and its related services in a variety of roles. During his time at the company he also provided advice to industry bodies such as the Agricultural Industries Confederation, North East Biofuels and acted as chairman and senior judge for the Farm Business Food and Farming Awards.

Agrovista managing director Chris Clayton said: “We thank James for his outstanding contribution to Agrovista UK Limited and wish him a long and happy retirement.

“His input, guidance and passion for the company and the industry as a whole, has been a tremendous driving force in developing the business. His knowledge and wisdom have not only developed Agrovista, but also many other individuals and businesses within the sector. We wish James well for the future and we will continue to build on his hard work and vision.”
