A crowdfunded initiative to celebrate the British asparagus season has reached its target - and is now looking for additional income.

In the last month some 67 backers, including FPJ, pledged cash towards the Great British Asparagus Feast - a five-course celebration of the British crop to be held at Yurt Lush in Bristol on 5 May.

The project was launched on Crowdfunder with an initial target of £7,000, which was passed on 7 April. Organisers are now seeking an extra £1,000 to improve the event further.

The feast sees chefs including Josh Eggleton, Jamie Randall and Seldon Curry serve up a series of dishes featuring the popular seasonal crop. Guardian writer Fiona Beckett is also designing a drinks flight to accompany each course.

The project was initiated on behalf of the industry by PamLloyd PR, and there are 70 seats available at the dinner.
