Thailand’s National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards has approved over 200 export license applications amid changes to the structure of the country’s fresh fruit trade, according to media reports.

As of Wednesday (4 May) all exporters wishing to ship fruit from the South East Asian nation must register with the bureau in order to receive permits. Exporters must also have their consignments fumigated by certified operators prior to shipment.

The bureau’s secretary general, Doojduan Sasanavin, told the National New Bureau of Thailand that the new system is aimed at strengthening safety standards and improving consumer confidence in Thai products around the globe.

Regular audits from Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives are set to ensure all Thai exporters remain compliant with the new protocols.
