Tilbury-based logistics firm NFT has won a contract to store and distribute products for prepared fruit and juice supplier Essential Fruit.

The six-month rolling contract, which includes importing and exporting expertise, was awarded due to the geographical advantages of NFT’s flagship London facility at the Port of Tilbury, a statement said.

As part of the initial contract, NFT is developing an expansive integrated solution, which will involve the collection of containers, storage handling and distribution of up to 6,000 pallets per week.

Essential Fruit managing director Dan Cahill said: “Essential Fruit imports and exports fruit products from all around the world and the port-centric chilled capability of NFT London, coupled with the network infrastructure of the wider NFT business, has provided a superior strategic location for our operations into and out of the UK.”

Dale Fiddy, NFT strategic development director, said: “Essential Fruit uses most of the ports in the south east of England and is a great example of NFT London providing commercial advantage regardless of the port of entry into the UK. With NFT London providing a single point of contact between port, warehousing, distribution and retailer, there are substantial commercial savings.”

Essential Fruit deals primarily with citrus and sources from over 50 producers in both northern and southern hemispheres.
