A protective and preservative film, X-Hance from RPC bpi protec, has won the Cutting Food Waste category in a major sustainability awards programme.
The contribution to sustainability and potential of the X-Hance was particularly singled out in the Packaging Europe Sustainability Awards. It effectively preserves the freshness and quality of products, extending their shelf life through the elimination of light rays by the film.
Though 100 per cent opaque, X Hance is still breathable and additional perforations can be added to enhance airflow within the pack. It is described as performing well on VFFS packing machines and has outstanding seal strength integrity.
These features have already been noted by a leading retailer, which has implemented X-Hance in its potato ranges. Potatoes are a common victim of green discolouration, but the film works to prevent this.
Deputy chief executive of the RPC bpi group, Andrew Green said: “X-Hance offers a number of key benefits for food retail markets, ensuring product is well protected and preserved throughout the supply chain while at the same time providing the high quality decoration that creates a premium image on-shelf.”
