Tesco chard

Tesco is promoting chard grown in Kent and Lincolnshire

Tesco is promoting a bumper crop of rainbow chard after warm and wet conditions led to a crop glut.

Produce grown by Peter Tickle in Lincolnshire and Brian Read in Kent, and supplied by DGM Growers, will be sold half price at 97p per pack in 250 Tesco stores.

“We’ve worked with a number of our suppliers over the summer to take on bumper crops that would otherwise have gone to waste, and we’ve done the same with DGM Growers, one of our chard growers,” said Tesco graduate buyer for chilled veg, Chris Williams.

“We’ve had ideal wet and warm weather conditions for rainbow chard recently, which has resulted in a lovely bumper crop of the vegetable.”

With a similar flavour to spinach, Tesco said chard is a great accompaniment to dishes including stir fries and gratins.
