Several fresh produce firms have been named in the Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 ranking of mid-market growth companies.

Logistics firm Turners of Soham was the highest ranked business in fresh produce at number 59, followed by the William Jackson Food Group at number 60.

Fruit supplier Richard Hochfeld was listed at number 170, salad supplier Natures Way Foods at 181 while potato supplier Branston entered the list at number 233.

The list ranks mid-market growth companies in order of sales, as well as noting operating profit and majority shareholders.

Branston MD James Truscott said the company has seen double-digit sales growth thanks to the strength of its team. He said: “We’ve focused on better, more efficient handling and reducing waste, making the most of every part of the crop. We’ve also continued to forge closer relationships with our customers and to invest in insight to better understand consumer behaviour.”

Over the last 18 months the company has invested more than £11 million in new machinery as well as opening a dedicated peeling facility to expand its range of products, Truscott added.
