Raw material costs in the mushroom sector have risen

Northern Irish mushroom firm Button Farm Mushrooms has gone into administration following the loss of a key customer and increased raw material costs.

The County Armagh-based business currently employs 14 people, according to the Belfast Telegraph, who were informed of the situation this week.

Administrators PwC are looking for potential buyers for the business, which includes a “modern, purpose-built facility'.

“The business has faced a number of adverse factors, which have impacted significantly on its ability to trade profitably and these ultimately led to the directors’ making the difficult decision to appoint administrators,” said PwC’s Stephen Cave.

“Our priority is to work with the directors in assessing the immediate financial and trading position of the business and to communicate with the workforce, key customers and suppliers.

“In parallel, we will be exploring sale opportunities for the business and hope that its modern purpose built facility will attract interest within and beyond the sector.”

Button Farm Mushrooms has been operating for three years just outside Markethill, Co. Armagh.
