The Tomato Growers Association (TGA) has named salad veg grower Glinwell’s head of technical and general manager Matthew Simon as its new chairman.
The news comes alongside the appointment of a new vice chairman, Brendan Gillow of tomato grower Flavourfresh.
Simon, who has been with Glinwell since 2004, has previously worked at Hazelwood VHB and Flamingo UK, and has a commercial horticulture qualification from Writtle College.
Gillow worked alongside former TGA chairman Bernard Sparkes at Melrow Nursery, where as operations manager he looked after post-production. He said: “I’m looking forward to the year ahead and to meeting as many new faces as possible. We have both exciting and uncertain times ahead which only increases the need to work together under the banner of British Tomato Growers Association.”
Welcoming the two new appointments, TGA secretary Julie Woolley and technical officer Phil Morley said: “We very much look forward to working together with Matthew and Brendan to make a real difference and re-align the future direction of the TGA.”
