Industry network the Australian Fresh Fruit Company (AFFCO) officially announced it had closed its doors today, more than a month after going into liquidation and almost five months after letting go of its staff.
AFFCO stated it had gone into voluntary liquidation on 2 February, and Produce Plus understands the group had made its entire staff redundant on 11 November and vacated its office on 18 November last year.
The group had focused on developing networks within the Australian fresh fruit industry, developing and recognising industry talent, and had coordinated the Australian export programme for Pink Lady apples.
Peak body Apple and Pear Australia Limited (APAL) has agreed to take on some of those responsibilities, and the body has also acquired the AFFCO name and is determining how to make use of it in future.
AFFCO was established as a network of major companies operating in the Australian fruit sector in 1995.
