State-of-the-art facility to focus on post-harvest plant physiology, preservation technologies, and more
AgroFresh Solutions opened its new Asia Pacific Research & Development Centre in Yangling, China on 28 April, marking a new milestone in the company’s investment in fresh produce through science-driven innovation, practical solutions, and sustainable impact.

Designed as a catalyst for collaboration, the centre brings together partners, scientists, and industry experts to address how fresh produce is protected, preserved, and delivered across the region.
The state-of-the-art centre will focus on post-harvest plant physiology, preservation technologies, and digital tools to deliver localised solutions that reduce waste, extend shelf-life, and enhance quality.
Research will target key regional crops—from apples and kiwifruit in Northwest China to tropical fruits across South-East Asia—while supporting major Asia Pacific markets including China, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
“This strategic investment in Yangling reflects our deep commitment to innovation and how we continue to differentiate and bring value to our customers,” said Han Kieftenbeld, CEO of AgroFresh.
“By combining our global reach with deep local expertise, we’re accelerating science-based solutions that reduce waste, extend freshness, and create value across the supply chain.”
Duncan Aust, chief technology officer of AgroFresh said the centre would transform science into impact.
“We’re building solutions that help deliver measurable results – longer shelf-life and better quality for consumers,” said Aust.
Beyond research, the centre will serve as a regional hub for knowledge exchange, training, and partnership—connecting innovation to real-world application.
