Argentina and Vietnam have pledged to work towards establishing a comprehensive partnership to boost trade and strengthen cultural ties between the two countries.
The announcement followed a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday between Argentine president Mauricio Macri and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phu Trong, during which they approved a reciprocal exchange that will allow Argentine oranges, grapefruit and mandarins to enter Vietnam as well as lemons.
Macri said that there was significant potential to boost bilateral trade, particularly in agriculture. Argentina is looking to export a range of products to Vietnam, including cherries, blueberries, pork, frozen beef, fish oil and powdered milk.
“Vietnam needs more food and we want to help them by supplying it,” Macri told reporters.
In turn, Nguyen said that Argentina “is a very important partner in America” and stressed his expectations to continue increasing and diversifying the exchange of products between both nations.
The Vietnamese president asked that Argentine officials study the possibility of approving the entry of household appliances, ceramics and sea products as other commercial options.
Vietnam is currently Argentina’s the fifth largest trade partner globally and the second biggest in Asia.
